What is Mediation?

Mediation is a process where an impartial third party, known as a mediator, helps two or more parties in a dispute to communicate effectively and reach a mutually acceptable resolution.

Mediation can be used to resolve a wide range of disputes, including workplace disputes, civil and commercial disputes, family disputes, and community disputes.

The length of the mediation process can vary depending on the complexity of the dispute and the willingness of the parties to reach a resolution. However, mediation is generally faster than court proceedings.

The cost of mediation can vary depending on the nature of the dispute and the duration of the mediation process. However, mediation is typically less expensive than going to court.

Is Mediation Confidential?

Yes, Mediation is a confidential process. What is discussed during mediation cannot be used later in court, providing a safe space for parties to openly discuss their issues.

The mediator’s role is to facilitate open and effective communication between the parties. They do not take sides or make decisions but help the parties to understand each other’s perspectives and find a mutually acceptable solution.

If an agreement cannot be reached in mediation, the parties still have the option to take the dispute to court. However, the majority of mediations result in a mutually acceptable resolution.
